Sprinkled with Love

By

“Jimmies,” “hundreds and thousands,” “sprinkles”—whatever they go by in your neck of the woods, kids love them. It’s just a matter of fact. But the funny thing is, when adults see sprinkles, our inner child comes out too! They add a little extra color, a little extra texture, and a little extra fun. What’s not to love about that?

Of course it’s always easy to pick up your favorite flavors and colors from the store, but you can always make your own at home too! Start by completely combining a cup of powdered sugar with 1½ tablespoons of water, a tablespoon of corn syrup and ½ teaspoon of flavored extract (think vanilla, almond, lemon, peppermint—let your imagination run wild!). Then mix in ½ cup more of powdered sugar and gel food coloring until your mixture is your desired color.

Using a pastry bag and a small round tip, you can pipe them onto wax or parchment paper into dots, fun shapes, or just classic straight lines that, after drying for at least 12 hours, can be cut to your desired lengths. The great thing about homemade sprinkles is that instead of tasting waxy, they have actual flavor!

We thought we’d share with you a few treats that are best served when topped with sprinkles and sprinkled with love. We hope they help you bring out your inner child! Now, do you prefer chocolate sprinkles or rainbow sprinkles? Sound off below in the comments section!
