It Ain’t All About the Football

By

The Big Game is nearly here, and while I like football (as most Southern girls do), I’m certainly not holdin’ my breath during every play. What I enjoy most is getting together with my football-loving friends and family for delicious food, funny commercials, and, naturally, a little football.

Of course, I’m a mama to two boys and a grandmother to six boys, so there are a lot of football-lovers in my family. Putting on the game is a great reason for us all to get together with our busy schedules and spend some quality time together. We laugh and joke; we cheer (the hootin’ and hollerin’ is part of the fun, after all!); we hug, kiss, and high-five; and we eat.

What do we eat? Anything that we can put on a chip or eat with our hands is an easy answer to that question. Sliders, pizza, dips, and wings are always crowd-pleasers. And of course, we always have a couple sweets to choose from. I’ll share a few of my favorites below, but I want to hear how you celebrate the Big Game too and what recipes you make for your viewing parties. I hope you’ll share with me in the comments below.

Until next time, I’m sendin’ y’all lots of love & best dishes.

xoxo,

Paula Deen - As a young girl growing up in Albany, Georgia, Paula Deen never dreamed she would become an American icon. As a young mother, Paula was living the American dream — married to her high school sweetheart and raising two adorable boys — when tragedy struck. Her parents died, her marriage failed and she began a prolonged battle with agoraphobia. With her boys in their teens and her family near homelessness, Paula took her last $200, reached deep inside her soul and started The Bag Lady, a home-based catering company that marked the start of Deen's professional cooking career. With sons Jamie and Bobby delivering lunch-and-love-in-a-bag, beginning in June 1989, Paula turned her life around by sharing what she knew best, traditional Southern cooking.
